I was affected by cancer when my father was diagnosed with lymphoma and soon after prostate cancer as well. I began researching and trying to find out everything I could about what was inside my dad’s body. It has been a bumpy road for my family but along the way I met a man who has changed my life forever. Jake is the most compassionate and caring individual I have ever met and he has taught me a lot. he has a heart of gold and would do anything for his family. He stole my heart in such a way I could never express properly.
His sister Sarah was diagnosed with breast cancer months after we met. I tried my best to be of comfort and support. Her being diagnosed so young made me realize the importance of being aware. This could happen to me. With my new found awareness I encouraged friends and family to be proactive in doing self breast exams and to report any abnormality immediately. Although that was good, I felt compelled to try and raise awareness even more.
With the help of Manny Porven who dedicated his time and expertise in photography, Mike Britton for designing the front cover, along with the brave women who shared their stories, insights and feelings with me, I was able to make “Power of Pink” happen. Through this book I hope we can raise awareness of breast cancer, find hope and inspiration, and learn how to become a better supporter and survivor.
together we can!
